Thats almost as bad as the "refrigerator mother" theory of Bettelheim's, but at least Bettelheim's theories have since been thoroughly debunked. Why is it proving to be so difficult to debunk the whole "vaccinations CAUSE autism" myth, especially when all credible scientists believe that autism has an exclusively genetic basis? The following web link, for example, presents nothing short of crazy pseudo-science to support its claims:

and yet there are plenty of people who seem to be convinced of the validity of this type of "data". Why? Wouldn't it be a far more interesting question to ask why only some children seem to be affected by vaccines, and not others? Maybe there is something involved in these vaccines, but I don't think it has anything specifically to do with autism.
Answer:
Well with what I have learned is that some children are born with a predisposition to autism. They are normal until something enters their already fragile neurological system then resulting in neurological damage. Some vaccines contain neurotoxins such as Formaldehyde, aluminum and polyxethanol(antifreeze). Some of these children shortly after being vaccinated have gotten sick and the combination of the two can cause the immune system, neurological system, and the nervous system to go hay wire, resulting with that predisposition turning into autism. These children would more than likely be OK if their immune system is strong and they are only given one vaccine at a time. After getting the tetnus shot your immune system goes down to that of a person with HIV . Then if you become sick shortly after the tetnus shot your body will react worse to the virus because your immune system is temporarily weakened.
I believe that the parents that blame vaccines for causing their childs autism can be justified. If it would happen to your child tomorrow 2 days after vaccines then you will be asking a totally different question. Some of these children are becomeing autistic shortly after being vaccinated and so there is a strong link between the two. What I mean by a predisposition to autism is that it is somewhat genetic, so your theory of it being genetic is right.
The sad part about all of this is that alot of children develop normally without worries until something such as a neurotoxin starts to destroy their brain, that explains some regression that occurs. Also if it is proven that autism is brought on by a vaccine then VAERS wouldn't have enough money to pay off all these families.
ur right..vaccines has nothing to do with autism. they havnt found the main cause for autism yet.
I think people can only go on their own experiences as there is not enough evidence one way or the other, and it is not likely to be the same cause in all children. In our case, it was clear as soon as my son had the DPT at 2 months that things started to go wrong, from the immediate adverse reaction within a few hours to the onset of eczema within days, disturbed sleep for about a year afterwards, worsening of the symptoms on the second and third booster at 3 and 4 months, improvement on the introduction of high dose Vit C etc. Needless to say we avoided the MMR. I have met well-educated and intelligent parents, including some working in the medical profession, and I believe those that tell me they are convinced it was vaccine in their cases, and I believe those who are sure that in there case it was unrelated. As one mother, an anaesthetist, said - we are doing something to our kids. Until medics, scientists and politicians start listening to parents who believe their children have been vaccine damaged, the research will never be done, and they will be able to continue saying there is no evidence of a link!
Because conspiracies, like sex, sells. These parents have been duped by pseudo-journalists (see David Kirby's "Evidence of Harm") and by quack practicioners (DAN! doctors) into believing this nonsense that cannot stand up to scientific scrutiny. Following the money is interesting as the most vocal of the "mercury militia" have a financial interest in the litigation against big pharma (Autism Omnibus case). If there's ever been a conflict of interest, it lies with these snake-oil salesmen that promote chelation as a "cure" for autism-it's disgusting.I do feel sorry for these parents who cannot get over greiving for their children. The inability to move on has turned their dispair into anger and has swayed them into this conspiracy theory that has spiraled out of control. They openly reject all scientific studies that disprove their hypothesis claiming the researchers are paid by big pharma. It's a convenient cop-out that is over-used. Their poor children are subjected their entire lives to hearing the message: "Your life and essence are not who you are. You are the product of a mass conspiracy cover-up. You should be someone else. I should have a different child instead of you."Digest that for a moment...it's a damaging thing for a child to infer from their desperate parent's words and actions. But these parents do it and say it every chance they get. They trot their kids out in the most pitiful manner and whine about how difficult THEIR lives are-forget about the struggles their children face because they are never accepted for the people they are and were born as. How sad these people will never know the joy their differently-brained children can bring because they're too clouded with the negatives. My heart breaks for each of these children.***********Edit***************
Olivia, don't tell me what me or my profoundly autistic child have or haven't been through-you don't know me. We've faced much adversity, thank you very much. Only difference is we embrace life and don't wallow in misery. Your kid's autistic-GET OVER IT. It's nobody's fault and it doesn't even matter. Look at what you do have and be thankful. I would be on your side if the science supported what you say but it doesn't-it's been studied to death. The scientific community has moved on-why can't you? If you had one shred of scientific evidence to back up what you say, you'd have a legitimate gripe but you don't-you're just mad at the world. How sad for your child.
I don't think anyone can say anything like this until they watch their own child go through this after my daughter had her MMR shot days afterwards she started having seizures for days. You try watching your child have painful seizure one after another up to 107 in one session. then watch as she does nothing because the seizure cause developmental delay and other causes. How dare you call them "refrigerator mothers" all you want to do is take away your child's pain and discomfort. For someone to say this means they don't have a child who went through this. It does have medical proof that MMR causes seizures and once you start having seizures the brain has an easier chance of having autism and other neurological problems. Of course doctors are not going to agree because it causes problems and they are afraid of a lawsuit because autism is so prevalent. If you read the fine print on the pamphelet for MMR it tells you that this immunization can cause seizures most parents don't read the fine print you can opt not to have the MMR if you had a child that had a reaction. Don't talk about something you didn't have to go through personally. It is not a myth you can't believe everything you hear or everything the medical doctors say they have their own agendas and can be biased. Wait until you go watch your child go through this it is not fair to these children. To the person above me talking crap really can't say anything like that must have never even had a child. I wouldn't change my child for the world she is the best thing that ever happened to me she is loving and sweet. The love of my life. She taught me about life and still teaches me things. You just want your child to be vocal and tell you what they want. Again don't talk about crap you never had to go through. People who never went through this who try to talk about offend me because they don't know crap. You haven't been through the same experiences as me and dealt with a difficult child or anything at all.
First to the lady who thought the poster was calling people "refridgator mothers"...she said this is a BAD theory, not that it's true.I agree with the person who stated parents are missing out on wonderful children by grieving over autism. Your kids are beatiful wonders from God.Here's evidence the vaccine "link" is false:

http://monado2.blogspot.com/2007/01/andr...Wow, look at that! The people were PAID to produce certain results in their study.http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicaln...
I have a 6 yr old son with autism. He is as wonderful as my other children(none of which have autism).I believe he received his autism from the shots because he had adverse reactions to other shots and when i brought these reactions to doctors attention i was told that they sometimes happen and he would be fine in a couple of days.I was young when i had my son and did not have any help nor did i ever question the doctor.I figure they knew what they were talking about more than i did. When we got his 18 month shots within 1 week he regressed from talking,playing,kissing,%26amp;huggi... to not making any eye contact not talking not wanting to be touched, and started self stimming(biting hands, toe walking). So if it was not the shots then what?I don't know but i have very valid reasons as do many other parents as to why they believe it is the shots. On Oprah a lady was there with her autistic son, a doctor stood up and told them about research in autism with experiments they were doing on monkeys with a type of autism. The lady asked the doctor "if you can tell so much since were so closely related to monkeys, then why not inject a healthy young monkey with the same shots they give our children and see if the monkey develops autism" the doctor immediately shut up and sat down.
