Why don't doctors test for herpes during std testing?

if they tested for herpes during std testing the people with no sypmtoms would know they have it and then maybe it wouldn't be spread so much. i was recently diagnosed with hsv-2 and it makes me angry that doctors won't test for it unless you specifically ask for it. gives you a false sence of security once the std tests come back negative.
Answer:
This is an excellent question! The reason why HSV-1 and HSV-2 are not routinely tested by a doctor is because they are NOT very specific tests. They can come back positive if you have had any member of the herpes family (including things like chicken pox, etc.) They have a high false positive rate and people may think they have an STD when they really do not. The only reliable way to test for herpes (unfortunately) is to actually have a lesion present, break the blister, touch a cotton swab to the contents of the blister, and send it off to a lab so it can be examined under a special microscope. They are constantly working on better ways to test for HSV that give more reliable answers. Hope this helps.
DrM says it the best. I would like to add that herpes isn't the only std that they don't test for during an std screening. Herpes is still a new didease you know! Syphillus and Gonorhea have been around for a hell of a lot longer. Some medical tests are expensive, or a waste of time or both. That is the facts. There are lots of venereal diseases that would blow your friggin mind and new ones coming out everyday.
The statistics for herpes are very startling...some studies indicate that actual factual fact is that MOST people have venereal herpes. Either as a host or as a carrier.
Be careful out there. Condoms provide a false sense of security, they do not protect against skin and hair born disease, and they fail to protect against those born by fluids all to frequently. Condoms can fall off, or break, or become stretched. Make sure you have several condoms available if you choose to use them. Keep them fresh and store them in a cool dark place. Know who you are sleeping with. Getting drunk is terrible idea if you are horny. Lust blindness is to blame for a significant number of new people with aids.
Masturbation is good mental hygene.
because in order for u to be diagnosed they have to see it on ur vagina the sores. Herpes hide out so when u get a blood test it doesnt come up
