Why insulin can not given IM?

Answer:
Insulin is usually given subcutaneously (into the fat). Other routes could possibly be given including IV. I think it has to do with SQ being slower absorbed (you don't want any quick shocks to the blood sugar). If you need faster...hospital usually deals with any possible IM or IV treatments. Ask a pharmacist for sure and he could tell you...
Insulin IS given IM (intramuscular)
predominately its given subcutaneously, but i suppose IM would work...it would burn more though, that's probably why due to the discomfort of IM shots..
